Nagan Chowrangi Signal Free Corridor-ll Opened For Traffic In Karachi
On the directives of City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal the City District Government Karachi has started installation of latest informatory, regulatory warning system, signs and cat eyes at the main shahrahs and signal free corridors of the city under public private partnership basis.
The Transport & Communication department of city government has invited tenders for the installation of informatory, regulatory, warning signs and raised pavement markers (cat eyes) at the signal free corridor-II from the P.E.C registered firms in appropriate category and the international traffic safety companies and partner in the joint venture are to be specialist in the manufacturing of international standard devices confirming to A.S.T.M specifications.
Under the project which involves an estimated cost of Rs.550 million, these regulatory signs and cat eyes will be fixed at various important points of corridor-II from Surjani to Airport to facilitate vehicular traffic.
The applications for the above work has been invited both as technical and financial proposals by the 11th August 2008.
This may be noted that the construction work of the signal free corridor-II of the city government has entered into its final stages of completion. Out of the five flyovers at this corridor the Sohrab Goth, Johar Morr and Askari IV flyovers have been already completed and opened for traffic while both the levels of the Nagan Chowrangi Flyover were also opened for traffic. The remaining work of the signal free corridor including the construction of a loop at Nagan chowrangi flyover and Gulshan Chowrangi Flyover were expected to be completed by 14th August 2008.
